EXPAND TO READ: HEBREWS 2 (HCSB)
PERSONAL JOURNAL:
SIN (verse 1): Right from the start of today’s quiet time, I feel You’re already speaking loudly to me, Father. You say in the very first verse here that we must “pay even more attention to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away.” So often in my life since coming to faith, I have failed to listen to what I have heard from You, Father. This has caused me to “drift away” many times. Please forgive me for this disobedience and immaturity in my faith, Father. Forgive me for acting like a child towards You often since coming to faith, that I feel the need to still often ignore Your wisdom, instruction, and counsel like a child often ignores their parents’ instructions. Help me to be better at not only hearing You when You are speaking to me, but also working to live in Your will for my life in all ways. I do not want to drift away again, Father, as I have experienced that far too often and have always found that living with and for You is ALWAYS better for me than living for myself.
PROMISE (verses 14-15): Your promise here is about Jesus. You promise us that through Jesus’ death, He has defeated the Devil’s grasp on our deaths. Jesus has provided us with a path out of the slavery the Devil continuously tries to bind us into. Thank You so much for this amazing sacrifice You made through Your Son, Jesus. Through Jesus, all who follow Him are saved from the Devil’s wicked schemes and I am so grateful for that. Without Jesus to save me, I would definitely be lost forever because I am far too weak, gullible, and often stupid to live this life properly on my own.
ATTITUDE (verse 1): Coming back to this verse for my attitude adjustment, Father. Please help me with living in an attitude of attentiveness and righteous discernment. Help me to be a better listener to the things You are trying to say to me through Your word, prayer, and even others in this life. Help me to live in a way that I listen far more than I speak, so that I can mature in my Spiritual walk with You and not grasp onto the evil things of this world and life.
COMMAND (verse 3): You ask us quite a basic question here that You would think wouldn’t result in such a poor response by people like me. You simply ask us “how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?” You are speaking of Jesus as our Lord and Savior here and the fact that I still allow myself to be tied up in bondage and slavery by the Devil when I have Jesus is quite ridiculous. It’s like telling my children not to touch the hot stove because they’ll burn themselves and they keep touching it; continuously burning themselves as a result. Help me to be better at truly accepting this great salvation and restoration You provide through Jesus, Father, so that I can truly escape the bondage and slavery of this world and the Devil.
EXAMPLE (verses 11-18): I think the latter half of this Scripture provides of such an amazing example of who Jesus really was. Based on this example You’ve provided, I can see that Jesus really was one of “us” while He was in the flesh prior to His crucifixion. He called us His brothers, lived in flesh and blood, and had to be like His “brothers” in every way to ensure He could become the greatest sacrificial lamb this world has ever known. Thanks to Jesus also being God while in the flesh, He was able to truly endure all of the sins of the world while remaining pure Himself. Jesus was tested many times, suffered many times while in the flesh, yet he was able to rise to victory through it all and give us a pathway to Your Kingdom through Him. Thank You so much for this amazing example, testimony, and sacrifice You have given us through Your perfect Son, Jesus.
*DAILY NOTE: I am so stubborn when it comes to listening to and embracing Your instruction for my life. Hebrews is an amazing book and right off the bat You’re counseling me on my stubbornness in this particular chapter. Thank You for the wisdom, Father, but also thank You for always coming right at me when You feel I need You to. Help to rid me of my stubbornness when it comes to the lessons I need to hear from You, Father. Help to rid me of my stubbornness when it comes to the changes I need to make in my life. Help me to be better in my faith than I ever have been in the past.
