Isaiah 11 (HCSB)
Reign of the Davidic King
1 Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him—a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. 3 His delight will be in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what He sees with His eyes, He will not execute justice by what He hears with His ears, 4 but He will judge the poor righteously and execute justice for the oppressed of the land. He will strike the land with discipline from His mouth, and He will kill the wicked with a command from His lips. 5 Righteousness will be a belt around His loins; faithfulness will be a belt around His waist. 6 The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the goat. The calf, the young lion, and the fatling will be together, and a child will lead them. 7 The cow and the bear will graze, their young ones will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 An infant will play beside the cobra’s pit, and a toddler will put his hand into a snake’s den. 9 None will harm or destroy another on My entire holy mountain, for the land will be as full of the knowledge of the Lord as the sea is filled with water.
Israel Regathered
10 On that day the root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples. The nations will seek Him, and His resting place will be glorious.
11 On that day the Lord will extend His hand a second time to recover—from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coasts and islands of the west—the remnant of His people who survive.
12 He will lift up a banner for the nations and gather the dispersed of Israel; He will collect the scattered of Judah from the four corners of the earth. 13 Ephraim’s envy will cease; Judah’s harassment will end. Ephraim will no longer be envious of Judah, and Judah will not harass Ephraim. 14 But they will swoop down on the Philistine flank to the west. Together they will plunder the people of the east. They will extend their power over Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be their subjects. 15 The Lord will divide the Gulf of Suez. He will wave His hand over the Euphrates with His mighty wind and will split it into seven streams, letting people walk through on foot. 16 There will be a highway for the remnant of His people who will survive from Assyria, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt.
Isaiah 12 (HCSB)
A Song of Praise
1 On that day you will say:
“I will praise You, Lord, although You were angry with me. Your anger has turned away, and You have had compassion on me.
2 Indeed, God is my salvation; I will trust Him and not be afraid, for Yah, the Lord, is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.”
3 You will joyfully draw water from the springs of salvation, 4 and on that day you will say:
“Give thanks to Yahweh; proclaim His name! Celebrate His works among the peoples. Declare that His name is exalted. 5 Sing to Yahweh, for He has done glorious things. Let this be known throughout the earth. 6 Cry out and sing, citizen of Zion, for the Holy One of Israel is among you in His greatness.”
PERSONAL JOURNAL:
SIN (verse 12:2): Lord, please forgive me for not always trusting in You and often relying on my own strength and will in my daily tasks. Help me to be more like what You tell us in these verses, so that I may trust You in ALL thing and trust in Your strength so that I may accomplish even greater things for Your kingdom and Your glory.
PROMISE (All of Ch 11): The promise of Your return and true unification and peace on all the earth is absolutely amazing. You say that not only will humans be unified and in peace with each other, but also ALL of the creatures on earth. Amazing!
ATTITUDE (verse 11:2): Father, please help me to have my attitude align with Your Spirit as reflected in this verse. Help me to become wise in Your truth and understanding. Help me to provide Your counsel and build me up with Your strength. Help me to know and share Your knowledge. Help me to truly grasp an attitude of this respect and fear of You, Lord, so that I may be more aligned with Your will.
COMMAND (verse 12:5): You tell us to not only sing to Yahweh for the glorious things He has done and will continue to do, but to also make it known throughout the earth. Help me to provide good testimony of the glorious things You have done in my life, Father, so that I can follow through on this command.
EXAMPLE (verses 11:2-5): You give us such a powerful example of how we should be living in this description of our Lord and Savior. Righteousness, faithfulness, a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, justice, righteous judgment, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord, knowing and speaking Your truth and Your wisdom to help glorify and expand Your kingdom. Such an amazing example that I need to at least try to live up to with Your help, wisdom, guidance, and counsel, Father.
*DAILY NOTE: WOW! This is such a powerful set of verses You've given to us, Father. You give the amazing example that Jesus provides for us on how we're to live. Although I fall short often, this example is something I need to be striving for. Help me to truly embrace the nature and character that Jesus shows us, so that I can glorify You through all things, Father. Help me to lean more on You through my daily walk so that all these characteristics You expect of us are easier for me to accomplish. Alone I am too weak, stubborn, and sinful to do these things; but with You these are all possible.
*GENERAL NOTE: I always "sandwich" my quiet time with God in prayer and do it in a location that I will not have any distractions so that I can be focused on my quiet time with God. Do not worry about how short or long your journal entries are for that day's quiet time. Just focus on the actual quiet time and relational conversation with God through the Holy Spirit and His Word. The journaling is an enhancement to your quiet time conversation with God, but also to allow you to reflect on things later as you can look back on your journal entries later when you do the chapters again in the future to see how you have grown. See the FAQ for more detail on how I do my quiet time.
