PERSONAL JOURNAL:
SIN ( 1 Kings 3:5 ): I must confess, when I read this question from You to Solomon, I immediately started thinking of some things I may or may not ask for. Please forgive me, Father, because my heart is not in the right place. I do not deserve the blessings that come with a question like this from You, Father. I’m struggling quite a bit this weekend for some reason and it shows in my thoughts towards this question. Please forgive me for this, Father, and help me to get back on Your path for my life.
PROMISE ( 1 Kings 3:10-14 ): You were pleased with Solomon’s response to Your question; therefore You promised him his request and additionally gave him more than he asked for—riches and honor beyond measure. Your promises to us, Father, always are plentiful and beyond measure/expectation. Thank You, Father, for such amazing promises which we are all unworthy of receiving.
ATTITUDE ( 1 Kings 3:9 ): Such a powerful verse in Solomon’s response to Your question to him. He asks for You to give Your servant a heart to judge and to discern between food and evil. Wow! I need both of these as well, but especially the heart of discernment as I am not very good at this, Father. Please grant me not only a heart of discernment, Father, but also the willingness to follow it.
COMMAND ( 1 Kings 3:14 ): This scripture’s command is fairly clear to me today. In responding to Solomon You close with “if you walk in My ways and keep My statutes and commands just as your father David did, I will give you a long life.” This is a command in the first part and a promise in the last part. The command is to walk in Your ways and keep Your statutes and commands. I need to get better at walking in Your ways, Father. Your ways and not my own, not my church’s , not the world’s , but Your ways. Help me to know better and do better on this topic, Father.
EXAMPLE ( 1 Kings 3:25-28 ): Solomon’s amazing example here of discernment is such an eye-opener. He didn’t really make the judgment call, rather he provided the situation where the two women would do it to themselves. He essentially created a test without them knowing it was a test to allow them to reveal the truth amongst themselves. He simply paid attention to what would happen next and allowed them to do all of the “work” essentially. Sometimes sitting back and observing to see how a situation progresses is the best thing we can do to get true revelation of reality. Thank you, Father!
*DAILY NOTE: Although my heart and mind are not fully in the right place today, Father, You still broke through my stubbornness and walls to speak to me. I find it funny that no matter what’s going on in my life, if I seek You then my heart and mind will naturally be in a better place. I just need to get better at seeking You with consistency in my life. I need to get better at going to You not just in my up moments, but also the down moments and every time in between. Thank you for this reminder today, Father.
